Wales International School
Wales International School was established in 2016 and offers the English National Curriculum for students from KG to Grade 12. The school is located in the Al Shamkha City of Abu Dhabi and the majority of the student body are Emiratis.
The school was established to offer high-quality British education for the local Emirati children. All subjects are taught in English, apart from the Ministry of Education of the UAE’s provisions on Arabic, Islamic and UAE Social Studies. Almost all the students speak Arabic, but the official language of the school is English. New students can be placed based on performance tests in English, Arabic, and Mathematics.
Wales International School has purpose-built state-of-the-art facilities which include Library, Gymnasium, Computer Labs, Football Pitch, Music Rooms, Science Lab, Canteen, Swimming Pool, and School Clinic. In a friendly, safe and caring surrounding, students will experience the National Curriculum of England and academic programs from the 21st century.
The school works as a team of teachers, students, and community members in providing the highest possible quality of education for a rich and diverse population of students. Wales International School’s mission is to enable students to achieve their maximum potential in becoming ethical, knowledgeable, and conscientious lifelong learners, capable of critical thinking and effective teamwork. The school values respect, care and honesty. The school aims to provide a rich, exciting and engaging curriculum that motivates students and develop them as a whole individual and help them achieve their maximum potential. WIS develops motivated, independent students who are curious with a lifelong love for learning.
WIS provides opportunities for every student to be part of the school and contribute to the local and global community through the teaching of rights and responsibilities. The school provides a secure, safe and supportive environment where students can develop respect for themselves, others and the people around them.
At Wales International School new parents are requested to pay a registration fee of 1000AED when they register their child and submit their forms. This registration fee payment completes the registration process. Once the school places are full, a waiting list is generated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Wales International School admits students into kindergarten (KG1 or KG2) without a test or interview. Students and parents are only requested to attend a familiarisation play day pre-registration. Prospective students are required to take placement tests in English, Arabic, and Mathematics to give an indication of their performance level(s) to be able to provide proper learning support. The SENDCO conducts an interview with students and their parents with mild to moderate special needs, to identify their needs and level of support required.
