Hartland International School
Description
With the National Curriculum for England, The Hartland International School offers an enriched education for students from Foundation Stage to Year 12. The school is located in the Nad Al Sheba area of Dubai.
Taking the model of the wealth of the best international education approach, Hartland School unlocks potential and nurtures talent. Hartland is a unique, vibrant and sprawling campus full of life and dynamics from inquisitive minds. In a disciplined and friendly community of about 60 nationalities, the school strives for academic excellence, which encourages everyone to succeed. Students develop confidence, friendship, happiness, motivation and a lively attitude to everything they do.
Hartland’s vision is to create a leading UK international school, combining traditional values with innovative educational approaches. Hartland learning community is a secure, safe, and happy environment that inspires challenges and supports the children.
During the Foundation Stage dedicated teachers encourage and promote active learning across all areas of the Early Year's Foundation Curriculum (EYFS), celebrate the achievements of each child, and prepare them for a smooth transition to Primary School. Digital technology is seamlessly woven into the classrooms to ensure all children interact with technology as a study tool. At this stage, language development is a key skill. Every child is encouraged to use a range of words and structures to communicate their ideas across various topics.
Specialist teachers in Primary School extend the thinking of each child, developing their ability to observe, question, and conduct research in all fields of study. A wide range of specialist subjects is offered to start from Year 2, which includes music, computer science, design technology, art, and linguistics. Specialist mathematics and English are also offered to those with learning challenges and those with special talents.
Children will continue to be encouraged and challenged within a strict academic framework during the upper years of primary school. The secondary program offers comprehensive education that combines academic excellence and rich opportunities for the enrichment program. It was designed to develop independent learning, resilience, and trust, and offer students immediate benefits to gain top university positions and, later, to work.
Key Stage 3 Study Program follows the broad and balanced National Curriculum for England and offers a broader international dimension which extends learning beyond normal age-related expectations. In Year 10, students are fully supported by making their GCSE or IGCSE choices. There is a complete range of more than 20 optional courses offered at Hartland. In Years 12 and 13, we offer a full A Level programme with some BTEC courses. Students are assessed by means of final examinations at the end of their two-year course. These are often described as linear examinations. The greater majority of universities, including those ranked highest in the world, only ask for three grades as entry requirements with only a very small number of courses specifying a fourth A level requirement. Therefore, for all students, the programme of study will typically consist of three advanced level qualifications and these will be supplemented by additional study periods, enrichment activities and for many students, the Extended Project Qualification. In exceptional cases, some students may take four A level subjects and this is dependent on ability provision.
Extracurricular activities at the Hartland International School include theatre, music, dance, production, drama, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, rugby, football, netball, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, taekwondo, karate, tennis, golf, field trips, community service, chess, cooking, Model United Nations, World Scholars Cup, Debating, Writers Club and more.
